What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure where your dentist removes diseased materials (such as nerves, blood vessels and other tissues) from inside a damaged tooth. Without a root canal procedure, your damaged teeth with will die and have to be pulled.

Our dentists will start by removing the diseased tissues from your teeth. The next step is cleaning and disinfecting in inner chamber of your tooth and packing it with medicated material to prevent infection. In order to finish the procedure your tooth will generally be capped with some kind of dental restoration, such as a dental crown.

Benefits of a Root Canal

A root canal treatment helps to save your natural tooth, relieve your symptoms, and limit the need to more extensive dental work into the future.

The removal of bacteria and decay from your inner tooth, your dentist will be able to help halt the spread of infection in your mouth and restore the health portion of the tooth

Most patients who have root canals experience little discomfort or pain, and enjoy a restored tooth. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.
