What is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgeries include the diagnostics and surgical treatment of defects, injuries or diseases in our patients' jaws, teeth, mouth and hard or soft tissues.

While our dentists always use the least invasive treatments possible for a given dental problem, if other, less invasive, treatment options aren't sufficient to treat your oral health issues, oral surgery may be required.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small, titanium screw that functions like the root of a natural tooth. Our dentists place implants as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and restore the appearance and function of your smile.

A dental implant, when used along with a tooth replacement like a bridge or crown, looks and feels like a natural tooth.

Gum Grafts

A gum graft is a procedure where gum tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth and transplanted onto another area of the gums.

A gum graft can help to cover exposed tooth roots, repair receding gums, and reduce any associated symptoms such as severe tooth sensitivity or eventual tooth loss, to protect your oral health.

Tooth Extractions

While it's preferable to save your natural tooth, in some cases it simply isn't possible to do so.

If a tooth is too badly damaged as a result of decay, injury, or gum disease, it may need to be removed by our dentists.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If the wisdom teeth are causing problems for your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.

Frenectomy

Frenectomies are a procedure which removes the frenum from your mouth: a small piece of tissue which connects your tongue, lips or cheeks to your gum area. Our dentists perform frenectomies on children, babies and adults when their frenum is restricting their mouth's function. This condition is commonly referred to as lip, tongue or cheek-tied.
